TM601 is a synthetically-derived, 36-amino acid peptide isolated from scorpion venom. A unique tumor targeting compound, TM601 specifically binds to and is taken up by tumor cells while not affecting corresponding normal tissues. When administered systemically, TM601 has been shown to cross the blood brain barrier and target tumors. TM601 interacts with a receptor that is over-expressed on tumor cells and vascular endothelium and is then rapidly internalized. In addition, TM601 inhibits the activity of a number of pro-angiogenic pathways, making it a versatile anti-angiogenic agent. TM601 is currently being developed as a single agent, conjugated to anti-cancer compounds, and in combination with existing therapies to treat a wide range of cancers and neovascular diseases.
